We made sure every individual website and regional domain name of both Tractebel-Engie and the acquisitions link to one main domain. We also set up redirects of old pages so the visitor cannot come across a ‘page not found’.
The website of Tractebel-Engie has an international audience and is therefore available in 8 versions in 6 languages and we’re targeting 33 top level domains and countries. The marketing team set clear rules for the hreflang tags that guide the visitor directly to the most relevant url. An example of an hreflang tag:

There are 33 domains, one for each country, and each has variations on the default languages for that region. For example, the French content of Belgium isn’t the same as the French content for France. A custom made solution was necessary because we didn’t want a messy CMS. A logical dropdown made everything clear and nice to work with.
